The graphics are much more realistic, adding in shadows and cleaner features on the character. Their hair also moves! There are also more fun objects like the karaoke machine which is a crackup! I also like the disco lights that you can add into your home.
The addition of the pets make it so familiar for those who have pets. I enjoyed the cat story more than the dog story, being a cat-o-phile myself, but I had fun doing the competition run which was something I was totally unfamiliar with.
In this series strangers can move into other people's houses, and there isn't the limitation of four people per household. For that reason I wish there was a cheat code for the maxmotives because when you have that many characters in the story you need to "cheat" once in a while or else the Grim Reaper will come along and punch in your ticket. Still this is the best in the series, in my opinion. I purchased this game after obtaining Life stories.
I really like the pet aspect of the Sims and think it's a great addition to the game. The stories are entertaining and not too long.
The ability to choose different pet personality aspects as well as the humanoid is a lovely feature, especially for someone who likes to replicate their own pets as I do. There are only 2 downsides that I can think of; can't bulldoze trees to make room for extra houses, and there's no elder stage of life. I like to make myself and friends in the sims game, but that's difficult when there's a limited number of lots and a lot of space taken up by trees is just frustrating.
It's also frustrating when your seemingly middle-aged sims up and die on you. The game does warn you of impending death, but I think the sim life cycle ought to be extended in this game.
It's just silly when an adult sim and adult do have the same life span. Overall it's a good game despite these flaws and worth it if you can't afford the original plus expansions, or if you prefer to play with a guided storyline. One person found this helpful. She asked for this specific game for Christmas and Santa so kindly delivered. To be honest, I don't play it with her and rarely watch so I can't comment personally.
But, she will spend hours a week we limit daily computer time on this game vs. My daughter is extremely modest and we have strict rules in our home about what is allowed on the computer, so I believe this PC game would be good for various ages. I got fed up with all the problems I was having with The Sims 2 and expansion packs constantly crashing game and computer on my home pc and gave up playing it.
I was so happy to find The Sims Pet Stories. I also tried The Sims Life Stories and was very annoyed with that version of the game - it felt more like the Sims 1 than Sims 2 with much repetetive sounds and actions. Doing the pet shows was a cool new feature but of course it also lacks basic features that I wish would have remained cars, elder stage, ect.
Not a bad buy though, I do enjoy playing it. Absolutely love the Sims and These Sims Stories are absolutely amazing. They allow you to play The Sims in a whole new way but yet in the same way you know and love. I own them all and love them all.
This game will never get old. I bought this for my eleven year old son and eight year old daughter.
They get a huge kick out of it and although they're at very different levels of ability, they both seem to get an equal amount of enjoyment from it. Excellent value buy! See all reviews.
